Hello and thanks for letting me in,
I have just recently got a hold of a 12’ pelican and am in the mitts of a ‘ restoration ‘ I guess would be a good word to describe it. She is floatable by all means but needing a mast. I will hopefully leave most of the restoration for this winter but would really like to get the kids out sailing this summer. My question is – is there a ‘ cheap ‘ way to put together a mast for this boat? With all of what is going on I can’t afford to put a lot of money out right now.
Thanks for any help – and good luck ---- Jim

Welcome Jim, and congratulations on the boat. You can make a mast from lumberyard materials by having a 12' long 4"x 4" ripped down to 2"x 3" or by gluing up two 1"x 4" with 1/2"x 4" trim sandwiched in the middle, then planing down to 2"x 3". Fir, pine, spruce or luan will work fine. Straight, not too many knots. Cut the bottom at 12 degrees, mount hardware and get that puppy on the water! Best of luck.

Thanks Jeff for the help. I have the mast glued together and will be planeing it out this week. Hope to have it in the water by this Sunday. I sure have the itch ??

Got the mast plained and sized tonight. Things have changed on the family plans and it looks like my boy and I will hopefully have all the hardware transfured to the new mast this friday -- maybe in the water Sat.
Thanks again for the help -- Jim
