What type of materials are used in your kits?
Our kits use marine grade okoume plywood, (Lloyd's Register BS1088) clear grain douglas fir, sitka spruce, (spars) mahogany, and stainless steel fasteners.
How long does it take to complete a boat?
Time varies according to experience, level of finish, etc. but an average time to have your boat ready to launch is 85 hours not including paint and varnish.
What are the shipping costs?
As of Nov. 2007 a complete kit can be shipped anywhere in the continental U.S. for $300 or less.
Do I need boatbuilding or carpentry experience to build a kit?
No. These kits are designed for the first time builder. Our building manual gives clear, complete instructions for each step and all parts are pre-cut to size and shape.
The scale model Pelican is a great way to get familiar with the building process.
Is there a kit for the 16' Great Pelican?
We are currently (Nov. 2007) developing the Great Pelican kits and will have them ready by spring 2008.
